Street and Sidewalk Paving & Repair

Street repaving is scheduled on an as-needed basis in accordance with the City’s Pavement Management Plan, approved by the Mayor & City Council. The City Engineer’s office responds to questions, driveway apron requests, curb cut permits, broken sidewalks, major repairs to City streets and requests for special projects.

Broken Streetlight
Pepco maintains all City street lights.  Report any any outages or broken street lamps to Pepco.  If you can, please provide them with the pole number, street address and type of pole (wooden or metal).

Potholes
Potholes and broken sidewalks on City-owned streets should be reported to the City Engineer.  The following streets are not City streets and need to be reported to the appropriate agency:

Traffic Signal Not Working or Flashing
Traffic signals are maintained by Prince George’s County (for County Roads) and by the State of Maryland (for State Roads).  Please report the issue to the appropriate agency.

Street Signs
The Department of Public Works maintains and installs traffic and street named signs on City-owned streets, parking meter posts, safety barricades and banners. 

Report any missing or damaged street signs: Contact the City’s Department of Public Works.


Broken Storm Drains
Storm drains are maintained by Prince George’s County (for City streets) and by the State of Maryland (for State Roads).  Please report the issue to the appropriate agency.

Right-of-Way Maintenance
The City maintains the turf within its rights-of-way, as well as maintaining certain rights-of-way on Prince George's County streets. 

Prince George's County maintains the ditch (Narragansett Run) along Narragansett Parkway. 

Report a Rights-of-Way issue (except for Narragansett Run): Contact the City's Department of Public Works

Gas Leaks
Gas leaks should be reported immediately; call 911 and/or the Washington Gas Emergency Leak Line at 1-800-752-7520. If you smell gas, leave the area immediately and call 911 or the Washington Gas emergency line

Water Main Breaks
If you're experiencing a water emergency, such as a broken water main, or a sewer emergency, report it by email at emergencycallcenter@wsscwater.com, or call us at 301-206-4002.

Fallen Utility Lines
Noticed a downed or fallen utility line?  Keep away from the fallen line, get to a safe area and call 9-1-1.


Fallen Tree
If a tree falls on private property, the property owner is responsible.

If a tree falls into the street or right-of-way, contact the City’s Department of Public Works.

  1. Neighborhood Issues

Noise Violations
To help keep our quiet and family-friendly neighborhoods, the City’s Code prohibits loud or raucous sound in residential areas (except if you are doing necessary property maintenance like mowing a lawn).   The allowable noise limit is 65 decibels during the day and 55 decibels at night. Residents can also call Prince George’s County Police to report a potential noise violation; 911 for emergency assistance of 301-352-1200 for non-emergency.

If you live in the Old Town or Lord Calvert Manor communities, you can also contact the University of Maryland’s Police Department at 301.405.3555.


Tall Grass, Bamboo, Overgrowth or Rodents
Does grass in a neighboring property look like it’s never been cut?  Or is a neighbor’s bamboo starting to spread onto your property?  Noticed some unwanted rodents coming from another property?  Our City Code has regulations for grass (must be kept under 12 inches), bamboo, firewood, rodents and more – check it out here.  Code Enforcement maintains those codes to ensure a safe and attractive City for its residents; all potential code issues should be reported to them.

Litter or Trash Issues
Help keep our neighborhoods and City beautiful and clean by not littering and only putting out your refuse or recycling collections on the appropriate day in the appropriate receptacle.  The City’s Code prohibits littering, dumping, or leaving trash on public or private property in the City (read more about it here).  If you notice litter, or trash left on a curb, or any other related issues, please report the City’s Department of Public Works and Code Enforcement.

Crime or Suspicious Activity
Report any crimes or suspicious activity to the police at 9-1-1. 

Prince George’s County Police also accepts reports of non-emergency incident or issues (including fraud, traffic hazard, inside flooding, lost property, vandalism, etc.)  online. You may complete a report here. To submit a report by phone, call 301-352-1200.

Lost or Found Animals
Report any lost or found animals to the City’s Animal Control and to Prince George’s County Animal Services. For tips to help reunification, please click here.

Wildlife
If you find your home or yard negatively affected by wildlife, including feral cats, please contact the City’s Animal Control.  Our Animal Control Officer can provide residents with information with how to solve a variety of wildlife problems without harm to the animal or person.   For information regarding wildlife in the City and trapping, click here.  Please report rodent (rats or mice) issues to the City’s Code Enforcement
