Community Gardens

The City of College Park has two community gardens: one in Hollywood and one in Old Town. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or you just want to learn how to grow your first vegetables, the City invites you to join a garden and meet others who share your interest in planting and healthy eating.

HOLLYWOOD

OLD TOWN

The Hollywood Garden is located in the northern part of the City near the corner of Edgewood Road and Rhode Island Avenue, close to the the City’s Youth and Family Services Building.

The Old Town garden is located in the southern part of the City, near the corner of Norwich Road and Columbia Avenue, just north of the Old Town Playground. To reach the garden from Route 1, turn at College Avenue, follow it to the end and then turn left onto Columbia Avenue.

Eligibility

All College Park residents are eligible to rent a plot in either garden. Members and additional volunteers are also occasionally needed to help maintain the garden.

For more information on the community garden or to check on plot availability, please email the City’s Department of Planning & Community Development.  To apply, fill out this form and submit it to the Department of Planning & Community Development.

  • No more than 10 people allowed in the garden at a time.
  • Stay six feet away from others while in the garden.
  • Wash/sanitize your hands before and after visiting the garden.
  • Wash your hands and any produce you bring home.

Permaculture Garden

The City has a permaculture garden along the Trolley Trail in the Berwyn neighborhood between Greenbelt Road and Tecumseh Street and plans to extend the garden south along the trail in the future.   The City's Committee for a Better Environment maintains the garden.

This edible garden is open to the residents to explore and and enjoy.  Plants grown are native to the mid-Atlantic region and sustainable.  To learn more about the garden, including the plants featured in the garden, please contact the City staff liaison.
