When spring comes, putting in a garden becomes an attractive idea.  When can you start? How far do you need to plan ahead? What kinds of plants should you choose? Master Gardener Esther Mitchell helps you tackle these common questions and more.

Esther Mitchell is the University of Maryland Extension Master Gardener Coordinator for Prince George’s County, MD, and, Community Developer for the Dept of the Environment, Sustainability Division, Prince George’s County, MD.  

As the coordinator she has increased the Prince George’s Master Gardener Program membership by 80 percent and the awareness of the program.  She has been featured on the radio and in a national and several local county newspapers on various horticultural subjects. 

She became a University of Maryland Extension Master Gardener in 2002.

She previously worked as a Program Manager at the Graduate School, USDA and an HR Specialist in Benefits at the US Office of Personnel Management where she oversaw several curriculums and supervised several employees.
