Location
Citywide design and construction of pedestrian and bicycle improvements on selected streets.
about the projects
Streets have been prioritized based on the Complete and Green Streets Policy that was adopted by the City in 2016. They are funded annually through the City's Capital Improvement Program.
complete and green streets implementation plan study
The project consultant, A. Morton Thomas and Associates (AMT), reviewed the City street network and staff’s matrix of connector streets and recommended initial priority locations for the installation of sidewalks. The City Council prioritized five street segments for 30% design. These are: Edmonston Road (between Old Calvert Road and Bryn Mawr Road), 52nd Avenue (between Huron Street and Narrangansett Parkway), Cherokee Street (between 48th Place and Rhode Island Avenue), Bowdoin Avenue (between Erskine Road and Harvard Road), and St. Andrews Place (between Duke Street and De Pauw Place).
The final report and 30% design plans can be found in the Project Documents section.
Funding for the plan was provided through the Planning Assistance to Municipalities and Communities (PAMC) program offered by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Prince George's County Planning Department.

cherokee street
The City of College Park hired consultants RK&K in February of 2021 to design sidewalk along the north side of Cherokee Street between 48th Place and Rhode Island Avenue. This sidewalk will tie into the recently completed developer-installed sidewalk between 48th Place and Route One to create full pedestrian access along Cherokee Street between Baltimore Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue.
The City applied for a Community Development Block Grant in Fall of 2020 to fund construction of the sidewalk. The grant decision is still pending and construction is not currently funded.
edmonston avenue
The City of College Park is designing sidewalk along the east side of Edmonston Road in the College Park Estates Subivision, from Old Calvert Road to the northern boundary of the City. Edmonston Road was identified as a location where a sidewalk is needed for safe pedestrian mobility to bus stops and eventually to the Calvert Road Community Park along Old Calvert Road. WSSC is replacing the water main along Edmonston Road, which provides an opportunity for the City to construct new sidewalk before WSSC resurfaces Edmonston Road.
The design is expected to be completed in November 2021. Construction is expected to begin in December 2021 and be completed by May 2022.
49th avenue in berwyn
The City of College Park received a Community Development Block Grant to construct a sidewalk along 49th Avenue between Patuxent Avenue and Pontiac Street along the Berwyn Neighborhood Playground. A new ADA-compliant sidewalk will be added to improve safety for pedestrians.
Construction is expected to begin in late summer of 2021.
Princeton avenue
The City of College Park received a Community Development Block Grant to construct an improved pedestrian connection where Princeton Avenue approaches Fraternity Row. A new ADA-compliant sidewalk was constructed to improve upon the existing dead-end gravel roadway. The project made considerable safety and aesthetic improvements by adding new asphalt, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. All improvements will be completed within the City of College Park right-of-way. The construction was completed in late spring of 2021.
