Location
Campus Drive between Rhode Island Trolley Trail and Baltimore Avenue
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project involves the development of preliminary design plans for a shared-use path along the north side of Campus Drive between the Rhode Island Trolley Trail and Baltimore Avenue. There is currently no sidewalk or bike path on this side of Campus Drive, so the proposed path would provide better connectivity for users of the trail system. Design plans will address environmental sensitivity, the nearby development of the Purple Line, and the sloping terrain of this area.
STATUS
PRELIMINARY DESIGN DEVELOPMENT COMPLETED
Engineers studied the project site and developed design alternatives for the proposed path. The City received stakeholder comments on the 30% plans from the Bikeways program, SHA, the University of Maryland, Prince George’s County Parks, and the Purple Line construction team. The City and our consultants met with Purple Line in an attempt to resolve apparent conflicts between the two projects, but it does not appear possible to advance the Sidepath plans any further until the Purple Line is complete.
FUNDING
Project (30% Design) Cost: $87,600
Funding comes from a Maryland Department of Transportation Bikeways grant and the City of College Park Complete and Green Streets Capital Improvement Program.
Estimated Completion Date
30% Design completed. Further development of the project is on hold until the Purple Line is complete.
