City of College Park Announces Final 2017 City Election Results

COLLEGE PARK, MD, November 9, 2017 - The City of College Park has released the final results of the November 7, 2017 City of College Park Mayor and Council election during which 2,648 residents cast their ballots. The final results include absentee and validated provisional ballots, and are expected to be certified by the Board of Election Supervisors on November 14, 2017.

Of the four candidates in the Mayoral election, Patrick L. Wojahn has been re-elected Mayor, receiving 1,568 votes.

For each district, the two candidates with the highest number of votes are elected to Council. The final results and elected Councilmembers are as follows:
    District 1, S. M. Kabir received 788 votes and Catherine Hope Kennedy, 483 votes;
    District 2, P. J. Brennan had 226 votes and Monroe S. Dennis, 159 votes;
    District 3, Robert W. Day received 540 votes and John B. Rigg, 530 votes; and
    District 4, Dustyn B. Kujawa had 241 votes and Denise C. Mitchell, 258 votes.

Each elected official serves a two-year term. The City will host an inauguration for the newly elected officials on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m., during the Mayor and Council Regular Meeting at City Hall. We encourage the public to attend or watch the live coverage on the City’s cable channels (Comcast Cable Channel 71 or Verizon Channel 25) or on the City’s website.

This City election made College Park history with 21 candidates running for office. The City has 18,299 registered voters and this year’s voter turnout was 14.5%. We thank our City residents who came out to vote, despite the less than ideal weather conditions.
